This full time Bookkeeper role is based in Bourke, NSW, and sits at the heart of our store level financial operations. You will be the financial backbone of the store, keeping day-to-day accounting accurate, timely, and aligned with Head Office standards. This role operates at store level and reports to Financial Controller at Headoffice for all core financial functions and compliance requirements. At the store level this role will report to the Store Manager.

Task & responsibilities

  • Perform daily bank reconciliations, including reconciling bank statements and reviewing store sales and direct debit transactions, reporting outcomes to the Head Office finance team.
  • Complete monthly bank reconciliations for the store entity, investigating and resolving discrepancies in line with Head Office reporting requirements.
  • Process weekly supplier payments for store-level purchasing, coordinating with suppliers and escalating exceptions to Picton head Office where required.
  • Prepare store invoices from deliveries and enter them into the XERO software.
  • Perform daily bank deposits to the local bank.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date financial records for the store, ensuring records align with Head Office standards and deadlines.
  • Prepare weekly store sales reports and submit to Head Office, reviewing sales and direct debit transactions for accuracy.
  • Support end-of-month financial processes, including processing routine accounting journals and monthly depreciation entries in Xero, in line with month-end timetables set by headoffice team.
  • Perform balance sheet reconciliations for key store accounts in Xero and provide completed reconciliations to Head Office for review.
  • Maintain and update the store Fixed Asset Register (FAR) in Xero, reconciling records with supporting documentation and reporting to Head Office as required.
  • Verify recorded transactions and report irregularities to store management and Head Office finance.

Qualification & experience

  • Formal tertiary accounting qualifications.
  • Minimum of 1-2 years relevant professional experience
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel is essential; experience with Attache or similar accounting systems is highly advantageous.
  • Ability to build successful relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills 
  • Ability to multi-task, work under pressure, and meet deadlines effectively
  • Excellent prioritisation and time management skills
  • Demonstrated high level of accuracy and meticulous attention to detail in all aspects of work
  • Able to work autonomously and be a team player
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
