Saffron India Restaurant is seeking an experienced and motivated Chef to join our busy restaurant on a full-time basis.

The focus of this role is on authentic Indian cuisine, and the successful candidate must have strong hands-on experience preparing a wide range of Indian dishes including curries, biryanis, tandoori items, naan breads, vegetarian specialties, and traditional Indian entrées. Experience in Indian cuisine will be highly regarded. This is a hands-on kitchen role in a fast-paced, high-volume restaurant environment.

The successful candidate will be responsible for overseeing kitchen operations and preparing high-quality meals while maintaining consistency, hygiene, and food safety standards.

This is a full-time position with an annual salary between AUD $77,000 and $85,000 plus superannuation, depending on skills and experience.

Task & responsibilities

  • Preparing and cooking a wide variety of traditional Indian dishes
  • Planning menus and assisting in development of new dishes
  • Maintain and monitor consistent taste and quality  of dishes at all stages of preparation and presentation
  • Managing food preparation and kitchen operations during busy service periods
  • Estimating food and labour costs and assisting with stock control
  • Ensuring compliance with food safety and hygiene standards
  • Supervising and training junior kitchen staff where required
  • Maintaining consistency in food quality and presentation standards

Qualification & experience

  • Mandatory qualification: Certificate III or IV in Commercial Cookery, or an equivalent qualification recognised in Australia
  • Minimum 1 year relevant work experience as a Chef
  • Strong knowledge of kitchen operations and food safety procedures
  • Excellent organisational and teamwork skills
  • Flexible and willing attitude, clear communication and customer service skills
  • Take pride in food presentation, always ensuring top quality
  • Food Hygiene compliance, knowledge and practices
  • Availability for rotating roster across Mon to Sun
  • Able to work 5 days across a 7-day operation
  • Job will require approx. 38 hrs per week
  • Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment
